Raheem Sterling says England being clinical was key in Spain win

Raheem Sterling says England's more clinical nature was a key difference in their 3-2 win against Spain in Seville.

The Manchester City forward scored twice, his first international goals in three years, as England triumphed.

Marcus Rashford netted the other for England who scored from each shot they had on target, which was a very different story compared to the 0-0 draw with Croatia on Friday.

"It was a brilliant team performance," Sterling told Sky Sports. "I thought we went straight at them from the beginning and we were clinical today.

"The other day [against Croatia] we played some good football at times but today I think we played really well and took those chances when we needed to."

Sterling fired in an unstoppable first after latching onto a Rashford through ball, to score his first goal since netting against Estonia in 2015.

Asked about the first goal, Sterling said. "It was a beautiful feeling; I put a lot of pressure on myself to get in the box and score goals, and sometimes it works for you and sometimes it don't but it's my position to score goals and I need to keep that going.

"It means a lot to me, as you said it's been three years, and it means a lot in a game like this."

Paco Alcacer and Sergio Ramos pulled goals back for Spain but England successfully held on for the victory.

England captain Harry Kane was pleased with the win, despite this being his seventh international game without scoring.

Kane told Sky Sports: "People always talk about goals and if I don't score I don't play well - but I've contributed to the team and that's important to me. I love scoring goals but winning feels even better."
