England cap to spend 10 weeks with Australian club

Former Everton and Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers has joined Australian club Newcastle Jets for a 10-week guest stint. Jeffers has been looking for a new club since leaving Sheffield Wednesday in the summer and trained with Blackpool during pre-season. He arrived in Australia on Wednesday to discuss a possible stint with the Jets and the one-cap England international is looking forward to his time in the A-League. "I like what is happening with the club. It is an exciting period here and hopefully I will be able to assist the Jets to climb up the ladder during my time here," he said. "The lads and everybody at the club have been great and made me feel welcome from the time I landed and I can't wait to get going." Newcastle coach Branko Culina was delighted to have Jeffers at the club and hopes he can help the younger players with his experience. "We are excited to have him on board, he is a player with great pedigree who has played at a high level and we hope his experience and knowledge will rub off on many of our younger players." Jeffers is expected to be available for the Jets' home match against Adelaide on Saturday 13th November.
