Feyenoord slipped 20 points behind Eredivisie leaders PSV after a 2-0 defeat at lowly Heracles on Saturday.
Brian Linssen scored on the stroke of half time for the hosts, who moved up to 15th with the win, before Thomas Bruns added another with six minutes remaining to compound Feyenoord's misery.
Second-placed Ajax can go eight points clear of Feyenoord if they win at home to FC Twente on Sunday.
ADO Den Haag moved up to 13th with a dramatic 3-2 win over NAC Breda, Michiel Kramer hitting the winner with five minutes remaining.
Kramer had scored for the hosts either side of Demy de Zeeuw's strikes for NAC, with Xander Houtkoop equalising in the 75h minute before the late winner.
