Coach told a new contract is on the table

Borussia Dortmund have told coach Jurgen Klopp they are keen to agree a new contract. Klopp has led Dortmund to a superb start to the new Bundesliga season as they sit second after winning seven of their opening nine games. The former Mainz coach, 43, currently has a deal until the end of next season and, although Dortmund want Klopp to sign an extension, the club's chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke insists there is no rush. The Dortmund supremo claims Klopp can choose when to decide and how long he wants to commit to. "Jurgen Klopp is contracted to our club until June 2012," Watzke told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

Klopp's decision

"But Jurgen will definitely be in the position to decide whether he wants to stay on or quit our club. He will be making that decision. "If he is keen to admit he wants to extend his contract with the club, we are ready to do so. "We could sign a deal that is valid indefinitely, if he is keen on something like that." Klopp took over at Signal Iduna Park at the start of the 2008/09 season and led Dortmund to a sixth-placed finish having come 13th the previous campaign under Thomas Doll. Dortmund then finished fifth last term to qualify for this season's Europa League, where they are currently third in Group J behind Paris St Germain and Sevilla.
