German boss appointed as FC Fehervar manager
Lothar Matthaus has been appointed as the new manager of Hungarian side FC Fehervar.
The former German international has signed a two-year deal while the club also have the option of a further year if they wish to extend his stay.
Matthaus was linked with the Cameroon national team post while FC Basel of Switzerland and Dusseldorf in his native Germany were also thought to be interested in his services.
The ex-Bayern Munich man had a stint in charge of the Hungary national team in 2004/2005, with limited success, so he will be determined to prove his worth with Fehervar, formally known as Videoton.
"With the new coach, FC Fehervar wants to win the Hungarian Championship in two years time," Fehervar general director Sandor Berzi told the club's official website.
