Napoli and Lazio finish year in second and third
The final round of Serie A matches in 2010 produced victories for Napoli and Lazio, but Juventus were held by Chievo.
AC Milan were already guaranteed to finish the year in top spot but, following their defeat at home to Roma on Saturday, Napoli and Lazio took the opportunity to close the gap to three points and climb above
Juventus.
Juve had started Sunday in second place by virtue of having a superior goal difference to Napoli and Lazio, but dropped to fourth following a surprise 1-1 draw against
Chievo.
Chievo's Michele Marcolini had a penalty saved by Marco Storari before Fabio Quagliarella fired Juventus in front just after the half-hour mark.
Manuel Giandonato was then sent off to leave Juve with ten men, and they were not quite able to hold on as Sergio Pellissier salvaged a last-gasp point for Chievo.
Napoli are therefore second in the standings after leaving it late to overcome lowly
Lecce 1-0 at home.
Edinson Cavani scored in the 90th minute against Steaua Bucharest in midweek to send Napoli through to the last 32 of the Europa League and he did exactly the same to secure victory against Lecce, who remain second from bottom.
Lazio are third in the standings following an entertaining 3-2 success against
Udinese, although they needed a late Cristian Zapata own goal.
Hernanes and Giuseppe Biava had given Lazio a two-goal lead after just five minutes, before Udinese replied through Alexis Sanchez and German Denis early in the second period.
Botom club
Bari remain without a win since September but battled back to hold high-flying
Palermo 1-1.
Bari had been reduced to ten men when Marco Rossi was sent off early on and they were soon a goal down after reported Premier League target Josip Ilic struck for Palermo.
However, Andrea Masiello netted a penalty on 54 minutes to give Bari only their third point in 12 matches.
Catania returned to winning ways by defeating relegation-threatened
Brescia 1-0 thanks to Maxi Lopez's first-half goal.
Parma and
Bologna played out a goalless draw that leaves both sides languishing in the bottom half.
The evening game, between local rivals
Sampdoria and
Genoa, had to be postponed following heavy snow in Liguria.
