TOLDO WEIGHS UP OPTIONS

EURO 2000 hero Francesco Toldo has returned to his Italian club Fiorentina with both a broken nose and a losing finalist medal - and will insist on a huge new contract if he is to stay at the club.

Toldo emerged as a clear contender for goalkeeper of the tournament in Benelux, after taking over from the injured first choice Gianluigi Buffon.

A string of fine performances and penalty saving heroics in the semi-final have lifted the custodian to one of the most high profile in the world, and the tall Viola star will hope that his new status is reflected in a contract offer from president Cecchi Gori.

If The Viola supremo decides against giving the massive contract offer that Toldo will demand, then there will be no shortage of clubs interested in the custodian - including La Liga giants Barcelona.

When asked about the Barcelona link Toldo said: "It is a great honour to be watched by a team as great as Barcelona, but I will not comment until I have talked with my president on Wednesday.

"Nonetheless I want to know once and for all if I am staying or going from Fiorentina.

"I have had great offers and I want to study them at length with my agent. At the moment I am in the public eye and I must take advantage of it."
