Veteran frontman wanted by A-League side Sydney FC

Sydney FC are waiting on an answer from Italy forward Alessandro Del Piero after holding talks over bringing him to the A-League club this summer. The 37-year-old was released by Juventus at the end of last season following a decorated 19-year stint with the Serie A giants. Del Piero, who won the 2006 World Cup with the Azzurri, is now looking to extend his career outside Italy. The veteran frontman is considering an offer to join Sydney FC, according to chief executive Tony Pignata. "Overnight we had two video conferences lasting about two hours discussing the possibility of bringing Alessandro Del Piero to Sydney FC for the 2012/13 season," Pignata said in a statement.

Legacy

"We spoke about football, as well as the Sydney lifestyle and the ability for him to leave a lasting legacy in the game. "We presented him with what we think is a good package and we should get an answer within 48 hours." Del Piero has also been linked with moves to Celtic and Swiss club FC Sion, while additionally attracting reported offers from the Middle East and Major League Soccer. The forward is highly-regarded following his successful stint with Juve which saw him win six Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias, one UEFA Champions League and an Intercontinental Cup.
