Gareth Bale rekindled his goalscoring touch, scoring four goals as Real Madrid ruthlessly dispatched nine-man Ray Vallecano 10-2 on Sunday.
The Welshman doubled his La Liga tally for the season on an enthralling afternoon at the Santiago Bernabeu as Real become the first team in 55 years to score 10 goals in a top-flight Spanish game.
Madrid opened the scoring early on only for Rayo to take a surprise lead inside the opening 12 minutes. But the game swung in the hosts' favour when the visitors were reduced to nine men, allowing Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo and co to fill their boots.
It proved to be a significant afternoon for Bale, who surpassed John Aldridge's record of 33 goals in La Liga by a British or Irish player - only Gary Lineker, on 42 goals, lies ahead of 26-year-old.
