Barca defender believes manager will stay on
Barcelona defender Dani Alves believes Pep Guardiola will sign a new deal as their manager ponders whether to renew his Camp Nou contract.
The 41-year-old's contract with the Catalan giants expires in the summer and he sparked concerns within the club last weekend by saying he still needed more time to decide his future.
Guardiola has worked wonders at the helm of the club after replacing Frank Rijkaard in 2008, helping them win the Primera Liga title three times, the UEFA Champions League twice, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.
Alves believes Barca are 'nothing' without Guardiola, although he is not expecting the hugely successful tactician to depart come the end of the season.
Stability
"I think that Guardiola will sign again because without him we're nothing," explained Alves.
"Without him we'd lose our anchor and we'd drift away. Guardiola has given us stability.
"If he decides not to stay on it wouldn't be a betrayal of Barca. You need a happy medium in life.
"If he goes, everything he's done for the club will remain."
Wasteful
Meanwhile, Alves has no qualms over Barcelona's league position, with the club 10 points behind Real Madrid in the title race.
Although Guardiola's team have been imperious on home soil they have dropped too many points on the road for the Brazilian's liking.
"The gap is perhaps a bit overstated but we must have made some mistakes to be where we are," he continued.
"We've played badly in patches away from home. We've lacked balance when pushing forward. But there's still time to improve. We have to take the Valencia match as an example."
