Italian defender signs one-year deal from Real Madrid

Juventus have confirmed that Fabio Cannavaro will complete his move from Real Madrid on 1st July. The defender has rejoined Juve on a one-year deal after Real decided against renewing his contract. The switch should come as no surprise with the defender admitting last month that he would love to return to the club despite the unrest it would cause amongst Juve supporters. Many fans were angry when the Italy skipper departed for Real in 2006 following the club's relegation to Serie B in the aftermath of the match-fixing scandal.

Ill-feeling

The ill-feeling surrounding the centre-half worsened when other stars such as Alessandro Del Piero, Gianluigi Buffon, Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet opted to stay. The Old Lady sacked coach Claudio Ranieri on Monday after going seven games without a win but the deal to bring Cannavaro back to Italy still went through. Now his future is sorted the World Cup winner is confident he can win over the Juve faithful. "I am sure I will be able to convince even the most sceptical fans thanks to my hard work, professionalism and passion with which I will approach this new adventure," he said.
