Lionel Messi scores Panenka in Barcelona win over Villarreal
Saturday 6 May 2017 20:39, UK
Lionel Messi scored a Panenka penalty for Barcelona in their 4-1 victory over Villarreal on Saturday.
With Barca 3-1 up at the Nou Camp, the hosts were awarded a bizarre penalty when Luis Suarez fired the ball at the body of Villarreal defender Jaume Costa, who was penalised for handball.
The referee awarded the spot kick, and Messi obliged by sitting goalkeeper Andres down and lifting the ball into the back of the net from 12 yards.
Messi netted his 50th club goal of the season earlier in the game, making it 2-1 to Barcelona with a deflected effort from outside the box.
Neymar had given title-chasing Barcelona a 21st-minute lead, before Villarreal's in-form striker Cedric Bakambu equalised 10 minutes later having raced clear.

After the break, Barca toiled to find that crucial third, which eventually came via the boot of Suarez in the 69th minute, before Messi made sure of the victory with a Panenka penalty eight minutes from time.
