Felipe Caicedo and Gerard Moreno had fired Espanyol into a commanding 2-1 lead that the hosts held until the final exchanges, only for Musacchio to sneak free to secure a share of the spoils.
Espanyol's forward pair had hoped to secure their side a first La Liga victory since December 19, but the home men were cruelly denied at the death.
Meanwhile, Ruben Rochina's powerful strike spared Granada's blushes after they had squandered a two-goal lead against Getafe.
Granada had been looking comfortable following first-half goals from Fran Rico and Youssef El Arabi.
But two goals in the space of four minutes from Stefan Scepovic and Moi Gomez had brought Getafe level out of nothing, but Rochina's rising shot in the 77th minute secured a 3-2 win which lifted them out of the bottom three and eased the pressure on coach Jose Ramon Sandoval.

Miku, Tito and Jozabed all scored in the space of 15 first-half minutes to put Rayo into a commanding half-time lead that they never looked in danger of losing.
In the earlier kick-off, Lionel Messi scored a superb volley to give Barcelona a 2-1 win at Malaga.
Javi Gracia's men have given Barcelona a rough ride during the four times they have met in the last two seasons and they will probably feel they should have taken at least a point from this game.
Munir El Haddadi had given Barca the lead in the second minute but Juanpi netted the hosts a deserved equaliser eight minutes before the break, only for Messi to restore Barca's lead early in the second half and temporarily take them top of the league.
