Valenciennes were held to a 0-0 draw by Auxerre at Stade Nungesserm.
Visitors hold on for a point
European hopefuls Valenciennes and Auxerre played out a 0-0 draw at Stade Nungesser, leaving the home side to rue a host of missed chances.
Valenciennes started the match brightly, their main threat coming through Johan Audel who fired just over the bar in the first half.
Audel and Gregory Pujol were causing all sorts of problems and they combined in the 48th minute but the latter's header was well saved by Oliver Sorin.
Auxerre finally threatened in the closing stages and felt they should have been awarded a penalty when Roy Contout went down under Milan Bisevac's challenge, only for the referee to wave play on.
The stalemate means the visitors stay a point above their opponents in fifth, while the draw moved Valenciennes up into sixth.
