Inverness midfielder Lewis Horner has been charged with breaching the Scottish Football Association's rules on betting.

A May 25 hearing date has been set for Horner, who is accused of placing 343 bets on football matches this season and 12 bets on football matches in 2011/12, when he played for Hibernian and East Stirling.

It is further alleged that two accumulator bets in 2011/12, and one from this season, included bets placed against his own club.

Horner has until May 15 to respond, but in the meantime he has received the backing of his club.

A statement read: "Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC are aware that Lewis Horner has been served with a Scottish Football Association Notice of Complaint in relation to match betting.

"Upon speaking to Lewis he informed us that he had previously suffered from problems with gambling; for which he had sought professional help.

"Lewis regrets that, having previously received counselling with regard to his addiction, he did not ask for further help sooner. He is very contrite and is extremely embarrassed to have brought this upon both himself and the club.

"Whilst it is disappointing, he has fully co-operated with the club in this matter and we will offer him all the support possible in dealing with this. The matter is still under review and, until such time as that is complete, neither the club or player will be making any further comment."

The SFA has also charged Annan Athletic chairman Henry McClelland with making multiple football bets stretching back to 2011, including 1,033 during the 2015/16 season.

McClelland's hearing date has been set for June 1 and he has until May 16 to respond.
