Scots green light for Neilson

Hearts defender Robbie Neilson will make his Scotland debut against Ukraine.

Hearts defender Robbie Neilson will make his Scotland debut against Ukraine on Wednesday.

Scotland manager Walter Smith is without the suspended Christian Dailly for the Eastern European trip and he has settled on Neilson as the man to fill the void.

The Scots are protecting a 100 percent record and Smith is confident Neilson will cope with the occasion.

"Robbie has been a steady player for Hearts over the last couple of seasons and I have every confidence in him," Smith told the Evening Times.

"I did have other options, but I did not want to make a couple of changes to accommodate one player.

"I am not sure who will be up against Robbie in the Ukraine team, because Ruslan Rotan, who is a very good player, is injured."
