David Tanner has told Goals on Sunday he would understand Craig Gordon’s reasoning if the goalkeeper decided to leave Celtic for Chelsea.
Sky sources understand Antonio Conte's side had an offer for Gordon rejected earlier this week.
The Scottish international is thought to be one of three goalkeepers Chelsea are considering as a replacement for Bournemouth target Asmir Begovic.
Gordon has less than six months to run on his contract with the Scottish Premiership champions, but Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted the 34-year-old remains firmly part of his plans.
However, speaking on Goals on Sunday, Tanner said it would come as little surprise should Gordon opt to leave for Stamford Bridge because of his recent injury history.
"If he is offered £40,000-a-week to £60,000-a-week by Chelsea at 34-years-old - and bear in mind he thought he may not play again a couple of years ago - there's every chance he'll want to take that," Tanner said.
"If he does go, that would be a major loss to Celtic."
