Portuguese international quiet on return to Tynecastle
Hearts defender Jose Goncalves has refused to confirm if he will return to Tynecastle after being axed for Saturday's victory over Inverness.
The former Portugal Under 21 international was dropped from caretaker manager Steven Frail's squad after a breach of club discipline following the 4-0 midweek home defeat to Rangers.
And Goncalves, who has starred for Hearts this season, admits he has been forced to take a break to clear his mind.
It is reported the 22-year-old, who joined Hearts in 2006, has returned to Portugal but the player has refused to reveal his whereabouts and has declined to comment if he will return.
Frustration
Goncalves insists he is still capable of working with Frail but when asked if he will make his way back to Tynecastle he told the
Daily Record: "No comment.
"I was very frustrated after the game (against Rangers). All the players and staff were frustrated and for a few days afterwards I wasn't happy.
"I also needed to make a little break in my mind. I have a strong character and when I don't like something I'll say it.
"That can make things difficult for people, but that's the way it is.
Internal matter
"I looked at my performance and was frustrated. I was also frustrated at losing so heavily at home. I did not expect to lose like that."
Frail, though, expects Goncalves to return to training on Monday.
"It's an internal matter," said Frail. "I've spoken to Jose and he accepts he is wrong. As far as we're concerned that's the end of the matter and Jose will be back on Monday."
