Barnet star wants international place
Barnet star Joe Devera has confirmed to
skysports.com that he would like to play for Venezuela.
The 24-year-old defender has had an excellent campaign for the Bees, despite their own struggles.
He has attracted interest from a number of clubs with the likes of Championship sides Reading, Millwall and Crystal Palace trailing him.
Now Devera, who has come through the youth ranks at Underhill, has revealed to
skysports.com that he is ready to pledge his international future to Venezuela, where his father is from.
The chance to play for the South American nation could see him competing in some major tournaments, including the Copa America which takes place in Argentina this summer.
"I would like to play for Venezuela, and I am hoping they will seriously consider me," he told
skysports.com.
"Not many players get the chance to play international football, but the opportunity is there for me and I would like to take it.
"Playing in South America means you are guaranteed to play against the likes of Brazil and Argentina, whilst the World Cup in 2014 is not an unrealistic proposition for Venezuela.
"So with all that in mind, I am relishing the chance to try and force my way in the Venezuela squad."
