Caretaker manager Ray Mathias says he wants to be the man to mastermind Stockport's return to the Football League.
Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Crewe finally confirmed the Hatters' relegation from League Two, with the goals coming in the second half as Alan Goodall put through his own net and Clayton Donaldson notched his 28th of the season. Chief executive Graham Shaw revealed that the Stockport board will meet on Monday to make a decision over the manager's job with an announcement expected later in the week, and Mathais is keen to stay on at Edgeley Park. Mathias said: "I've thrown my hat into the ring for the manager's job but I'll have to wait to see if I get the shout or not. "It's vitally important that the club sorts out who is going to be in charge next season as soon as possible. "The season's not over as far as I am concerned or for the players. We want to win the last game for the fans who have been brilliant to us and never stopped singing for us."
