Asamoah set for Chester

Derek Asamoah looks set for Chester while the club prepare another bid for Jon Parkin.

Skysports.com understand that Chester are close to signing Lincoln striker Derek Asamoah.

Blues boss Keith Curle signed the Ghanaian forward during his tenure as Mansfield boss and it is understood that he is now adding the final touches to a deal which will take him to The Saunders Honda Stadium.

The 24-year-old will be out of contract in the summer, and it is believed that The Imps will only demand a nominal fee with sell-on clauses inserted.

Asamoah shares the same agent as Keith Alexander and it is thought that the deal was hammered out in the background of recent boardroom turmoil within the club.

The former Northampton forward has struggled to hit his stride at Sincil Bank after arriving in March 2005 and has found the net just five times in his 32 first-team starts.

Curle has also assured fans that Chester's bid to steal a march on Lincoln in the race to land Macclesfield's Jon Parkin is still very much alive.

The Blues recently saw a £50,000 bid land back at their feet, but the former Mansfield boss is ready to weigh in with another offer.

'It's not a dead deal yet. It might be that we can restructure the deal so it can be more favourable to Macclesfield, but we will not be held to ransom," he told the Chester Chronicle.
