Edwards relieved with survival

Exeter first-team coach Rob Edwards was happy that the Grecians ensured their survival courtesy of a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe.

The Iron saw their 28-match unbeaten run ended by Exeter, who guaranteed survival with the win, but Fleetwood's draw with Southend meant Scunthorpe cannot be caught in the race for promotion. Craig Woodman opened the scoring with a stunning 25-yard strike and Jimmy Keohane wrapped up the win with his long-range shot squirming through the body of goalkeeper Sam Slocombe. "It was a relief, we have been looking at the league table for a long time and we have been getting closer and closer to it," Edwards said. "It is a great relief to everyone and what a great performance at just the right time. "The players are frustrated with where we are in the league with the group of players that we have got, the staff know we can all do better, so we will take it from there. "We have shown flashes of what we can do, but we haven't always played with that intensity and drive. It was a fantastic performance and the players were really on top of their game and determined. We didn't look like conceding and we were together. "We scored two fantastic goals - with a left foot like that, Craig should be shooting more often and Jimmy showed just what he can do as well. We had chances to win by more as well. "A lot of people here care about this club, it has been a tough time for everyone and it was last chance for us. We said after Monday it wasn't good enough and the players must do better and they did."
