Championship: Rotherham manager Steve Evans targeting 'exciting' loan signing

Rotherham manager Steve Evans is hopeful of bringing a "young, exciting Championship" player in on loan before the weekend.

Evans has been thwarted in the transfer market for a number of weeks and last week rejected the chance to sign a Premier League player as he was reluctant to break the wage structure.

But back-to-back 3-0 defeats has heightened the urgency to bolster the ranks and Evans is optimistic a deal could happen before this weekend's local derby at Sheffield Wednesday.

Evans said: "Maybe it will happen. We have been given permission by the other manager to let the two chief executives see if an agreement can be reached.

"Let me tell the supporters now, I won't cut across this one, if it's right, we're bringing him in.

"This is a different player, I just didn't feel comfortable with the money he was going to be taking on a weekly basis.

"Money-wise we are not a club who can compete, but we do go about having value for money."
