Huddersfield boss David Wagner was satisfied with his side's performance but was left frustrated at giving away the first goal in what turned out to be a 3-0 defeat at Leicester

David Wagner has bemoaned Huddersfield's "sloppy" defending for Leicester's opening goal as they lost 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.

Riyad Mahrez struck home in the 53rd minute to opening the scoring for the Foxes, before Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton added to the tally.

Following the game, Wagner said he thought Huddersfield's performance was better than their 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday, but was disappointed with some poor defending.

"Performance wise, I thought it was OK. I think we played well in the first half, we kept them away from our goal and they had no clear-cut chances," he told Sky Sports.

Leicester 3-0 Huddersfield

"We had a big opportunity from Danny Williams and another situation where he was close and tried to win a penalty rather than go for goal.

"They were the best two situations in the first half, we missed both of them and then we gave away a very sloppy first goal that was easy to defend. You should defend you man after a throw in and we lost him in the second phase.

"It looked clear what it was from my point of view, especially after the first half. Two days before, we didn't play well and we got a point. Today, I think the performances was OK but we lost 3-0."

It leaves Huddersfield winless in their last four Premier League outings, although they remain in 11th place on 24 points - six above the drop zone - with Wagner warning his side that small margins could continue to cost them.

"I think now we are experienced enough, we've played 22 games in the Premier League, we know what it's all about," he added.

"Small margins decide the games and today, in the first half, we had the best opportunity of the game and we missed it. In the second half, we gave the goal away much too easily and this cannot happen at this level.

"It will cost you, and today, it was us. We have to accept it but we have to try again in the next game."
