Thompson signs five

New Notts County boss Steve Thompson has signed five players to his squad.

New Notts County boss Steve Thompson has started to shape his squad for next season by signing five players.

The former Sheffield United and Cambridge United boss has brought in four new additions and promoted a centre back from the club's youth ranks at Meadow Lane.

The new faces include veteran striker Jason Lee (pictured), who joins the East Midlands club on a two-year deal following his release from League One club Northampton Town last month.

Former Brentford and Bristol Rovers defender Matt Somner is another player to join the League Two club on a two-year contract after his deal at Nationwide Conference club Aldershot Town expired.

They are joined by the former Boston United pair of centre back Alan White and striker Lawrie Dudfield, with both players agreeing one-year deals with The Magpies.

The fifth player to sign up with Thompson's new-look squad is teenage defender Bobby Wilson after he concurred on a two-year contract with the club.

Wilson impressed County with his performances in the club's youth and reserve sides last term.

The news of County's new signings comes after Thompson appointed former Mansfield Town and Chester City assistant manager John Gannon to his backroom staff as first team coach.
