Swansea left-back Neil Taylor admits he is puzzled by the omission of some of his club’s star players from the England squad.
Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge both failed to make Roy Hodgson’s squad for the forthcoming games against Norway and Switzerland despite their fine starts to the season.
A double from Dyer, either side of a goal from Routledge, earned the Swans their third straight Premier League victory on Saturday as they brushed aside West Brom 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium.
Taylor said after the game: “I’ve always thought that being down here in Swansea that the English boys get overlooked a little bit. I used to think it a few years ago with Leon Britton and even when Scott Sinclair was doing well down here.
“Nath is now on three goals in four games. He’s been doing brilliantly and scored a great goal today, but they’ve obviously been overlooked and I’m sure it’s disappointing for them.
“But I think for Swansea and for us it’s a massive positive and they’re doing great.”
Taylor is likely to be in action for Wales when they play their first European Qualifier – an away game against Andorra on September 9 – and he is upbeat about their prospects in Group B.
“There are high hopes for this campaign and we want to do really, really well,” he said.
“If we can get everybody there and fit and playing then we’ve got a great chance and obviously we have to get the win out in Andorra to make it a good start.
“We know we’re good and we know that when we have a fully fit team and we’re playing well that we’re a match for anybody.
“We’ve shown that in glimpses but it’s time that we produced now – it’s as simple as that.
“You can’t start blaming formations or managers or anything like that. The players themselves have to start producing and this is probably the key time to do it.”
