City Ground supremo says no one has bid for the club
Chairman Frank Clark has hinted Nottingham Forest face an uncertain financial future as no investors are bidding for the Championship club.
The City Ground side recently revealed losses exceeding £11million for the last financial year while the club's wages-to-turnover ratio tops 100 per cent.
Owner Nigel Doughty is no longer willing to plug the gap in the club's finances, meaning an alternative source of funding is required.
Clark admits the club will find it 'very, very difficult' to operate on income alone, stating they need to maximise their commercial potential.
No bids
"There have been no bids at all, none whatsoever," he told the
Nottingham Post. "There is nobody out there. Nobody in their right mind is going to buy a football club in the current climate.
"From what I gather, most clubs in the Championship are for sale, if somebody came in with a decent offer. But people are not out there. It is up to us as a board of directors to seek alternative sources of funding.
"Certainly, at the time when Nigel says 'enough is enough' (when it comes to his financial backing), for the club to operate purely on income will be very, very difficult indeed.
"We need to maximise our commercial potential and look at every aspect of the club to see if we can do things better; to see if we can attract more money. The second thing is looking for alternative sources of funding."
Reshuffle
Clark expects a boardroom reshuffle, adding: "The people coming in would not be coming to put money into the club, but they are the kind of people who might be able to find us alternative sources of funding.
"The plans are in place. It will not happen tomorrow, but we are talking to one or two people about coming onto the board. We want people who can explore the world for alternative sources of funding.
"The owner has always said he will only sell if he is convinced he is selling to somebody with an affinity for the club, who will take it forward. But there is not a queue of people right now."
