Hughes strike sinks Saddlers

A wonder strike from Lee Hughes lit up a second consecutive home win for Notts County as they beat battling Walsall 2-1.
The home side were quickest out the blocks with Cristian Montano slamming a shot against the post after just two minutes and Hughes glancing a header narrowly wide in an early onslaught. Walsall offered precious little going forward in the first half and County went ahead through a moment of brilliance by 35-year-old Hughes after 37 minutes. The striker took an innocent-looking cross from Alan Judge on his chest before hammering a volley past a helpless David Grof in the Saddlers goal from the edge of the box. County made a sloppy start to the second half and paid for it when Andy Butler equalised for Walsall with a header from a Richard Taundry free-kick on the hour. However the Magpies were soon back in front as skipper Neal Bishop chipped over the visitors defence and West Ham loanee Montano fired past Grof to give Martin Allen's side victory.
