Tom Nichols scored his first goal in professional football on his 18th birthday to help Exeter win 2-1 against Chesterfield.
They took the lead in the 16th minute when Billy Jones' corner was flicked into the air by Rowan Vine and fell kindly for Troy Archibald-Henville, who volleyed the ball into the ground and over the despairing dive of Tommy Lee. The equaliser came after 33 minutes when Danny Coles was adjudged to have handballed inside the penalty box and Danny Whitaker netted from the spot. Chesterfield's Scott Boden then pulled a shot narrowly wide, while Exeter's James Dunne fired straight at Lee. But with eight minutes remaining Nichols showed a cool head to slide a wonderful winner after good work by Chris Shephard.
