Midfielder delighted to secure extension following promotion success

Leeds United midfielder Jonny Howson has signed a contract extension following the club's promotion back to the Championship. The 21-year-old signed a new three-year deal in the summer of 2008, but the club have exercised an option to extend his contract by a further 12 months. Howson, who scored the equaliser in Saturday's win over Bristol Rovers, has spent his entire career at Elland Road and is delighted to have been rewarded with a new deal. "I've grown up supporting this club, I've loved my time here, and extending it by another season is fantastic," said Howson. "I think when you know you're wanted as a player you tend to play better yourself. I just enjoy playing football and doing something I love every day. "Getting back up to the Championship will be a better test for me in terms of football, players you play with and against. I'm always looking to better myself." Howson, who made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in 2006, added: "The years have flown by here and hopefully in a couple of years I'll be answering the same questions again."
