Leeds secure South African striker on extended terms
Leeds United have retained striker Davide Somma's services after taking up the option on the second year of his contract.
The South African hit-man joined Leeds last year on a one-year deal, although that included an additional 12 months if he impressed.
Although Somma has made just one Whites appearance he has been scoring goals for fun during his loan spell with League Two side Lincoln.
The 25-year-old has bagged eight goals in 12 league starts, form that has prompted Leeds' hierarchy to secure his future.
Leeds manager Simon Grayson is pleased with Somma's progress at Sincil Bank and is looking forward to working with him next season.
Progress
"Dave has done really well at Lincoln," he told the club's
official website.
"The main reason behind him going out on loan was to play games in a competitive environment.
"We've seen his qualities in training and in the reserves, but he needed a loan move like this and his record down there speaks for itself.
"Dave will come back here with plenty of confidence, more experience, he knows his future here is secure with another year, and we look forward to working with him again."
Injury update
Meanwhile, Leeds face an anxious wait to learn the extent of Ben Parker's latest injury after he sustained a calf problem against MK Dons.
Grayson added: "Unfortunately for him he pulled his calf. Sometimes when you've been out for a while these things do happen.
"He's had a scan and we're waiting on the results of that. Hopefully it's nothing too severe and he'll be back as soon as possible.
"I think everyone felt for him because it has been a very tough year for him, but he has worked so hard in coming back."
