Tigers midfielder takes part in light training following injury
Hull City midfielder Ian Ashbee has revealed he is moving a step closer towards his playing comeback.
Ashbee has been sidelined for almost a year after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage last season, which many feared could signal the end of his career.
But the 33-year-old has fought back having undergone surgery in America, and although Iain Dowie has forbidden him undertaking tackling and physical contact, he is back in training.
"I'm back in full training every day now and it's getting close to full contact," he told the club's
official website.
"I'm as far along as I can be at this stage and it's a case of getting a few more weeks under my belt to make sure everything is alright.
"I've still got to take things easy and make sure I do things right. The last thing I want to do is something silly to put myself back.
"But things have felt good so far. It might be a case of having another scan just to make sure everything is okay.
"I'm training every day and getting no reaction or swelling or anything like that."
Hull are currently embroiled in a relegation dogfight at the bottom of the Premier League as they look to escape the drop for successive seasons.
Following a draw against Birmingham on Saturday the Tigers take on Aston Villa on Wednesday and Ashbee is staying positive.
"If we can get a win it puts everybody else on the backfoot so that is what we have got to do," he added.
"It's in our hands and we have got to try and make it happen."
