Yannick Bolasie says people get Saido Berahino wrong and he would like to see his friend join him at Crystal Palace.
Sky sources understand the Eagles have tabled a bid for striker Berahino, who is keen to leave West Brom this summer.
Bolasie is also warm to the idea of Liverpool's Christian Benteke, a fellow player with Congolese heritage, coming to Selhurst Park, with Palace having already seen a bid rejected for the Belgium international.
After scoring in Palace's 3-2 pre-season win over local rivals AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday, Bolasie told Sky Sports News HQ: "I know Saido and he would be a good signing.
"I think he's a top lad. Everyone gets him a bit wrong but he's a top guy. And obviously Benteke has Congolese origin, same as me.

"It's good to see fresh faces come through the door, especially with what we're seeing in the Premier League so far; the managers that have come in and players coming in from all over the world.
"It's part of football I guess. I haven't had it easy where I've come from, I'll be looking forward to battling. It's a buzz for the whole team. Football is all about competition and I'm looking forward to that."
Bolasie also gave an insight into manager Alan Pardew's plans for the new season, saying the team are working on two formations as he looks to step up his intensity on the wing.
"I've had a long break off so I haven't been here for the whole of pre-season, but I've seen two formations so far; 3-5-2 and 4-4-2. I think the boys have adapted well to that," Bolasie said.
"For myself, I'm not trying to catch up with the boys. It's going to be about my intensity. It requires high intensity, my game, so I'm not focusing on what I'm doing on the pitch, I've been focusing on getting back in shape and making my runs forward."
