Akinbiyi form earns honour

Stoke City striker Ade Akinbiyi is Championship Player of the Month for August.

Stoke City striker Ade Akinbiyi has been named Championship Player of the Month for August.

The former Norwich City, Wolves and Leicester City hit-man took the honour after helping Tony Pulis's side to second in the table in the first six League matches.

Akinbiyi scored twice and set up numerous goalscoring chances for a Potters side that went undefeated throughout the first month of the season.

The striker's award will be some redemption to the difficulties in form the 29-year-old had after stints with The Foxes and Crystal Palace.

Pulis looks to have aided with Akinbiyi's form since initially bringing him on loan to The Britannia Stadium in March 2003, having previously worked with the striker when the pair were both at Gillingham.
