Southampton have decided not to appeal against the red card shown to defender Ryan Bertrand in their 1-0 home defeat to Swansea on Sunday.

Bertrand was sent off by referee Michael Oliver in the final minute of the game for a late tackle on Swansea substitute Modou Barrow.

Saints manager Ronald Koeman said after the game he did not think the challenge merited a straight red card.

“In my opinion it was not a red card,” he said.

“He [Bertrand] touched the ball and okay, it looks like a foul, but it should have been maximum a yellow card and not a red card."

But the club will not contest the decision and he will now serve a three-match suspension.

That will see him miss the Premier League games against QPR, West Ham and Liverpool, with the 25-year-old available again for the trip to The Hawthorns to face West Brom on February 28.
