Wales international recovering after surgery

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards is targeting a January return following a recent operation on an ankle injury. The 23-year-old Welshman picked up the knock against Tottenham earlier in the month following a clash with Benoit Assou-Ekotto, while Michael Kightly and Andy Keogh are also in the treatment room with similar problems. Having undergone successful surgery, Edwards is hoping to return as soon as possible and aid his team as they look to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season. "I had the surgery a couple of weeks ago and it's all coming along well as far as I'm aware," he told the club's official website. "It was obviously disappointing to get injured especially over the Christmas period when there were some good games. But there's nothing I can do about it - it was just one of those freak accidents. "Myself and Kights (Michael Kightly) have had exactly the same operation which is strange. "If all goes according to plan there's a chance it (return date) could be before the end of January. "It would be nice to be available again and maybe the three of us could come back and refresh things a little bit if needed. "But I've seen how hard it was to get in the team before so I'm under no illusions having come out injured about getting back in again. "I'm looking forward to getting back towards fitness and have started a bit of cardio vascular work now. "Hopefully I'll then come back stronger when I return." Edwards may not be an automatic choice in the first team for manager Mick McCarthy when he returns to the fold after a number of players have performed admirably in midfield. Wolves' next game is a trip to Prenton Park to play Tranmere on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup.
