Four West Brom players avoid legal action after accusations of stealing a taxi

A Spanish court has decided not to pursue a case against the four West Brom players accused of stealing a taxi in Barcelona.

According to Reuters, four Albion players were questioned but not arrested by police over the alleged theft of a taxi last week, while they were at a training camp in Spain.

A Barcelona court has now decided there is not enough evidence to bring charges against the foursome.

Last Friday, West Brom players Gareth Barry, Jonny Evans, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill apologised for breaking a club curfew and owned up to being involved in an "incident" - although there was no mention of a taxi or any other specifics.

The players released a statement, which read in part: "We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to our team-mates, the head coach, the club and especially the supporters for the events (in Spain) which have been the subject of widespread and negative publicity."

West Brom are still conducting their own investigation into the incident, and manager Alan Pardew described the breaking of the curfew as "unacceptable".

Pardew named both Evans and Barry in his starting line-up for the FA Cup fifth-round defeat by Southampton at The Hawthorns on Saturday, although Evans was stripped of the captaincy.

The West Brom boss is set to decide this week whether to give the armband back to the former Manchester United defender or permanently remove it.
