Reid renews Nomvete interest

SUNDERLAND are believed to be back in for former target Siyabonga Nomvete.

The South African striker is the latest player catching Peter Reid's eye, as the Wearsiders continue to look to the Italian market.

Udinese are ready to sell the tall striker, if the price is right, and it seems certain that the 24-year-old is another addition to Reid's list of targets.

After scoring against Slovenia, the former Kaizer Chiefs hit-man can be pleased with his World Cup efforts, although, like his team-mates, he will be disappointed in the manner of Bafana Bafana's exit, as Paraguay sneaked through instead due to a late rally against the Slovenians.

There is no indication from our Italian sources that a deal is close to being finalised so The Black Cats' next addition may be another of their targets.

However, Nomvete was very close to joining Sunderland in 2000, after undergoing a trial spell at Stadium of Light in April of that year, and Reid has continued to monitor his progress.

Keeper Luca Castellazi and strikers Cristiano Lucarelli and Fausto Rossini have also been attracting attention from the North East outfit.
