Burton forward Lucas Akins has signed a new two-year deal with the newly-promoted Sky Bet Championship club.

Akins, 27, the Brewers' top scorer for the past two years, fired 12 goals in 48 appearances for Nigel Clough's side last season.

"It's great that Lucas has decided to stay with us for the next couple of seasons," Clough told the club's official website.

"He obviously attracted interest from other clubs, having played an important role in the back-to-back promotions as well as being the top scorer for the last two seasons.

"His ability to play in several positions will be a big help in the Championship."

Akins started out at hometown club Huddersfield and had spells in Scotland with Hamilton and Partick before signing for Tranmere in 2010.

He joined Burton from Stevenage in 2014 and has scored 22 goals in 84 appearances.

Akins said: "I'm delighted to have committed to Burton Albion again - many good things have happened in my time here so far and I hope that can continue.

"We are lucky to have a manager with Championship experience so in that respect we are one step ahead."
