Sir Elton John told fans “Watford Football Club is forever in my heart” after a stand at Vicarage Road was named in his honour.
The club’s Life President and former chairman gave an emotional address to supporters ahead of their 2-1 win over Wigan on Saturday and he was clearly moved by the gesture, as his visit officially declared the Sir Elton John Stand open.
"Thank you very, very much - this is one of the greatest days of my life," he said.
"I never thought I'd ever have a stand named after me. I never thought I'd sit in a stand!
"To the people at the club, including those in the background, the home supporters and away supporters, the owner, the chairman and the board of directors: you have treated me with so much love and a love for football.
"Watford Football is forever in my heart!"
Sir Elton also praised the current owners of the club, who he feels can take the Sky Bet Championship club forward.
"I want thank the Pozzo family for moving this club forward in the modern era. The club is in safe hands,” he added.
"It's in the top 25 clubs in England and we should be very proud of that - and that's due to my friends the Pozzo family.
“I salute the Watford fans who have given me so much love over so many years."
