West Ham star Dimitri Payet is facing up to three months out with an ankle injury suffered against Everton at the weekend.
Earlier on Monday Jack Sullivan, son of owner David Sullivan, had tweeted that the French star was facing a spell on the sidelines and now the club have confirmed the extent of the injury.
The French midfielder has been an integral part of West Ham's rise up the Premier League table this season but now faces the prospect of being out until the new year after scans on Sunday confirmed the damage.
Payet suffered the ankle injury in the 50th minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Everton after being tackled by James McCarthy who was booked following the challenge.
The 28-year-old joined from Marseille for £10.7m in the summer, since when he has netted five times in 13 league appearances for the East London club.
