Wigan 1-0 Oxford: Will Grigg fires Latics closer to promotion
Tuesday 17 April 2018 22:06, UK
Will Grigg's late goal pushed leaders Wigan to the brink of promotion from Sky Bet League One after a 1-0 win at home to Oxford.
The Latics, who are eight points clear of third-placed Shrewsbury with four games to play, had the best chances in a first half that was short on excitement and entertainment.
Michael Jacobs fired against the underside of the bar after great work from Gary Roberts to play him in.
Moments later Max Power forced a brilliant fingertip save out of Oxford goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, before firing an effort from similar distance inches over the top.
Power's set-pieces were causing problems for the visitors and, from a corner, James Vaughan and Dan Burn combined to send the ball goalwards before it was hacked off the line.

Wigan were never going to be satisfied with a point, and three attacking substitutes helped to push the game in their favour.
It looked as though honours would end even until substitute Devante Cole slipped the ball sideways to give fellow replacement Grigg an open goal he could not miss.
