Martin Demichelis has accepted a FA misconduct charge over 12 counts of betting on football.
The Argentina international, 35, is alleged to have committed 12 breaches of FA rule E8 concerning football matches between January 22 and 28 this year.
Sky sources understand there is no suggestion Demichelis is suspected of match-fixing or betting on a game involving Manchester City.
Demichelis - who moved to the Etihad in 2013 from Atletico Madrid - has played 18 Premier League games this season but was substituted in the recent 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini did not want to be distracted by the issue when asked about it at his scheduled press conference to preview his side's Champions League quarter-final at Paris Saint-Germain.
But he did confirm that Demichelis would be involved at the Parc de Princes where Vincent Kompnay and Yaya Toure will both be absent.
Pellegrini said: "I speak with Martin every day but now we are just thinking about the game. I didn't want to disturb him from different things. He is involved in the game tomorrow and I am sure he will give the correct answer in
the correct moment."
