Steven Taylor admits it was a special feeling to net his first goal for Newcastle on Thursday. The defender stooped low to head home Albert Luque's corner, with his goal helping Newcastle claim a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo and a place in the last 32 of the Uefa Cup.
Taylor has passed up a couple of decent chances during his fledgling career, so he was thrilled to finally hit the target.
"It was the best night of my life," he told Channel Five. "The victory was more important but my first goal was something special.
"I saw everyone miss it, I lost my marker and got my head on and I am over the moon.
"We got a win and that's what is needed. We have three wins now."
Taylor is looking for Newcastle to take confidence from the win into their Premiership clash with Portsmouth on Sunday.
"It gives us more confidence," he added. "We have not got off to the best of starts in The Premiership, but we have done well in the Uefa Cup and we want that to continue.
"Our main priority is now Sunday, we have a massive game."
