Newcastle might have lost again in the Premier League but Jeff Stelling launched into a passionate defence of the city on Soccer Saturday.
Stelling referenced recent comments by a radio presenter that impressive attendances at St James' Park were because there was "practically nothing else to do on a Saturday afternoon".
But the Sky Sports man, originally from the north east, was having none of it, and, listing a string of appealing attractions, delivered a rousing ode to the city.
