Jack Grealish has been taken to hospital after taking a knee to the ribs in Aston Villa's 0-0 pre-season draw with Watford on Saturday.
The 21-year-old was caught in a collision with Tom Cleverley as the pair challenged for the ball and then appeared to land awkwardly.
He was taken off after 25 minutes of the game at Villa Park and was later taken to hospital, where he is expected to remain under observation until Sunday.
Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce said: "Jack has gone to hospital. He is not OK at the minute. It has knocked him sick, whatever he has got.
"We are hoping internally he is OK. We will not find out for the next 24 hours but he is away at hospital as we speak."
