Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo says Jack Grealish must "grow up" after confirming the club is conducting an internal investigation over reports of an alleged breach of club discipline by the midfielder.
Grealish, who signed a new four-year deal at Villa Park earlier this month, is alleged to have held a party in a Birmingham hotel hours after the club's goalless draw at Ipswich on Saturday.
The 21-year-old was forced to apologise to then-manager Tim Sherwood last year after pictures emerged of him inhaling nitrous oxide, also known as hippy crack.
It is claimed the party at the weekend also included balloons filled nitrous oxide - although there is no suggestion Grealish himself used the legal high - while West Midlands Police have confirmed officers attended the Park Regis Hotel at 7.45am on Sunday morning after other guests complained about "rowdy party", although no arrests were made.
Grealish is yet to be fined or disciplined, but Di Matteo refused to say if the player would be involved when Villa host Newcastle in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.
He said: "It's still on-going, I cannot confirm or deny if he will be available. It's a timing issue and we want to get it right.
"In general for the sake of any player they need to learn about what it takes to be an athlete. He needs to grow up very quickly.
"It's not the first time and he needs to understand if he wants a good career he has to stop."
