DeAndre Yedlin will join Tottenham in January after securing a work permit, according to Sky sources.
The north London club announced in August that Yedlin had agreed a four-year deal to move from Seattle Sounders for £2.5m, but he did not meet the requirements to work in the UK.
Yedlin, 21, subsequently pursued a Latvian passport due to heritage in his family but Sky Sports understands the player has been granted a Governing Body Endorsement and will not need the Latvian passport.
The player is currently enjoying an off-season break having helped the Sounders reach MLS’s play-offs. They lost the Western Conference final to eventual Cup winners LA Galaxy.
Yedlin impressed at the World Cup as USA reached the knockout stages and further caught the eye of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino when the clubs contested a pre-season friendly in Seattle in July.
After his transfer to Spurs was completed, Yedlin spoke of his eagerness to join up with and learn from first-choice right-back Kyle Walker, who recently returned from injury.
He said: "I’m excited to learn from him and learn from the other full-backs, and from coach Mauricio Pochettino, who’s great with young players.
“I’m an attacking full-back and I felt when I signed that England will fit my playing style better. Tottenham was a good situation for me."
