Tim Howard felt sympathy for opposite number Adam Bogdan after the Everton goalkeeper scored during his side's 2-1 defeat by Bolton Wanderers.
Everton took the lead at Goodison Park just after the hour mark in stunning circumstances when Howard's punt forward from inside his own area was helped on its way by the wind.
The ball bounced in front of Bogdan and over the Bolton keeper, but USA international Howard explained why his celebrations in giving the Toffees the lead were muted.
"I spoke to him just then and I let him know that I was feeling for him," Howard told
Sky Sports.

"It's not a nice place to be. I've been there before, a long, long time ago and that was why I didn't celebrate.
"I was delighted that we were in the lead and would hopefully go on to get three points, but it's not a nice feeling for a keeper, it's really awful actually."
The goal was the first of Howard's career and he acknowledged that the swirling conditions on Merseyside were difficult to contend with.
He added: "For the back four and the goalkeepers at both ends, there was an awful wind swirling.
"You could see everybody was mistiming balls. Defenders were missing clearances that normally they would put up the field.
"I think the wind is the hardest condition to play in. Snow, rain, sun doesn't matter, but the wind really does play tricks on you."
