Blues midfielder could face former club at Wembley

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish says there is still an outside chance of Alex Hleb making the Carling Cup final on Sunday. The 29-year-old midfielder was stretchered off with a knee problem during the FA Cup victory against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend and the chances of him appearing at Wembley appeared slim. With Hleb's former club Arsenal the opponents in the final, the on-loan Barcelona man will be desperate to play a part. Following the Wednesday triumph at the weekend he left the ground on crutches but a scan on Monday revealed no ligament damage and he will now await the results of a meeting with a surgeon in London.

Experience

McLeish said: "It is not a ligament problem. Alexander had a scan yesterday and it is just severe bruising. "He is seeing the surgeon in London today and I haven't ruled him out for Sunday. "Alex has great skill and massive experience and it is something I'd like to be able to call upon at some stage in the game if he is fit. "We will probably know more by tomorrow lunchtime."
